ANTI-BLUE LIGHT
ANTI-BLUE LIGHT
Blue light is a visible short-wave light that is present in both sunlight and artificial light, and is emitted by the LCD screens of digital devices (smartphone, tablet, computer, etc.), TVs and xenon and LED vehicle headlights. Depending on the intensity and duration of exposure, it can be harmful to your eyes.
More about the Blue Light
There are two types of blue light, depending on the wave length:
-Blue turquoise light in the range between 465 and 495 nm (nanometres). This wave length of light has a positive effect on the body, as it plays a role in regulating sleep cycles and mood..
-Blue violet light in the range between 415 and 455 nm is harmful for eyes. This wave length of light is also referred to as high-energy visible (HEV) light, as it is accompanied by a powerful energetic light that can lead to photochemical retina damage when the eye is exposed..
Blue violet light was recently acknowledged as a factor responsible for the development of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Eye Safety Material (ESM) for selective protection from harmful light
Leica Eyecare uses the molecular characteristics of the ESM, which functions much like a selective protection filter for aggressive light.
This filter absorbs 100% of harmful blue light, while 90% of essential blue turquoise light can pass through the lens. Thanks to this selective function, the wearer enjoys the positive effect of blue light and is protected from the effects of the harmful part of the spectrum.

Who is affected?
All of us. Because blue light is emitted from a majority of our screens and our daily use of digital devices is on the rise, we’re all increasingly exposed to blue light.
Due in large part to its preventive effect, the ESM for lenses can benefit people who have cases of cataract or age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in their family.
